Productivity tips when working from home.

Working from home and be productive might be tricky. I believe that if you have deadlines set up by someone else – like your boss, customer, your tutor, it is much easier to be productive and accomplish what needs to be done. However, when it comes to your own deadline, it is much easier to slip it, push it, move the date.

So what is the best way to be productive working from home? In this post, you will find many tips on how to accomplish all of your tasks. You may already use some of them as the tips are well known and practiced by many people.

TIP #1. Get up early to have a time for self-care.

If you are one of those people that hit the snooze button in the morning, you need to wean yourself from doing so!

It has been scientifically proven, that by coming back to sleep, you put your body in a new full sleeping cycle and when the alarm rings again, you break the cycle. It will make you feel foggy and more tired and even angry. Once the alarm rings, just get up off the bed – it is not that difficult. The most difficult part is to start something, the same applies to a simple daily task like getting up from bed!

TIP #2. Self-care time.

Listen to a motivational video, there are plenty of videos on YouTube. It will give you a proper kick to start your day.

Practice affirmation and gratitude. I recommend using guided meditation for affirmation and gratitude. I am not a big fun of multitasking, but combining two simple things into one, like gratitude or affirmation meditation has many benefits for you, especially in the morning.

Do a bit of stretching or yoga or any exercises of your choice, nothing crazy, just get your body moving, make the blood flowing and increase the oxygen level.

See my post of Self-Care routine.

TIP #3. Eat something.

It can be a big breakfast if you are ready for it or can be a small one – a toast, fruit, yogurt. Anything that will make you go for another hour or so.

TIP #4. Get ready.

Put clothes that you feel comfortable in and that boost your confidence. There are many sayings like: “Beauty is only skin deep” or “Don’t judge the book by its cover”; however, our outfit definitely boosts our confidence. You don’t need to wear expensive clothes; soft materials and well-chosen colours will definitely make you feel better.

TIP #5. Tidy up.

When working from home, make sure your house is tidy and distractions are removed. I prefer to do it the night before, just clean the house, tidy up all the stuff away so I don’t have to worry about it the next morning.

TIP #6. Go to the dedicated area.

An office, dining table, wherever you are going to work. Make sure you avoid sofa as a dedicated work space. Did you know that sitting in an inclined position decrease oxygen flow? But also sofa can make you feel so cozy and comfortable that our mind associate with relaxing/chilling time.

TIP #7. Work of your to do/accomplishment list.

This is something that will never give up. I love working off my tasks list and ticking down what I have completed so far. Recently, I came across an interview with Rachel Hollis where she mentioned that she practices an accomplishment list and not the to do list. And when I analyse it, it actually makes sense to write down things that you would like to accomplish over your day. It definitely stimulates your mind in the way affirmations work. I have been doing the accomplishment list for a few months now and I can put a bet on it that it is much more productive than just a standard To-Do List.

TIP #8. Complete the biggest task of the day first.

I know people (and I was one of them a few years back) that dreading to do the biggest, more complex task first. Instead, they are completing the small tasks first and at the end of the day they are realising they have run out of time or just too tired to tick another box.

TIP #9. Use Pomodoro method.

Use Pomodoro technique for completing your tasks and take regular breaks. So how I use the Pomodoro method is that after each 25 minutes I take a short 5 minute break and a longer break after 2 or 3 Pomodoro cycles.
