Top Hacks How to Make Your Home Looking More Mindful

When you starting to practise mindfulness, you need to make sure that not only you mind and body are the focus areas, but also the surroundings around you.

After you declutter your entire house from items that you don’t really need to keep or have, you can redesign your bedroom in a mindful way.

There is no brainer that when you have fewer things around you, you can focus more on whatever you need to. But more important – your brain doesn’t have to pick up so many objects, your eyes don’t focus on cluttered room. Did you know that even if you don’t think about stuff that are surrounding you, your brain still picks it up and still needs to process all the information. And I am sure that this is just a waste of your energy.

So, what can you do to make your bedroom look more mindful? I have 10 ways for the makeover for you.

1. Make your bed each morning. Rule number 1 – make your bed straight after the bed is empty. If you sleep on your own, make the bed straight after you get up. It has benefits such as – you are more productive, you won’t go back to bed and your room is tidied straight away. It also makes you to slow down a bit and set a positive pace for the day ahead.

2. Tidy up. As already mentioned, decluttering is a big part of the process. Make sure you don’t keep things that you don’t need; you only keep what you really want and what you love. Get rid of disturbing pictures or ornaments.

3. Low furniture. If you would like to change your furniture or redesign the room completely, go for low furniture. Too high furniture can disturb the whole visual flow of the bedroom. Low furniture will look cosy and minimalistic. And that is what you need.

4. Clean base colour palette. Light colours can open the space and make it feel calm, airy and for sure the room will look pulled together. If you like colours, you can add some by putting colourful cushions on the bed, or some small accents around the room. But don’t go rainbow, pick 2 based colours and add one as an extra.

5. Natural materials. Shop for pieces like wood, cork, clay, earthy materials – salt lights, some rocks, natural plant pots. It will bring a warm character to your room.

6. Natural light. Speaking of natural – another aspect is natural light. When you practice mindfulness, the idea is to wake up when the sun raises or when is light out and go to bed when is dark outside. Get rid of heavy, dark curtains or blinds – this way you can maximize the amount of light coming into your room.

7. Hide electric cords. Yep, let’s do that. Cords are eyesores and may disturb your minds. You can buy some cables organizers, or just make sure that your phone charger is not that visible or that night lamp’s cables are hidden behind the bed or bedside tables.

8. Soft lighting. Talking about cords of the bed lamps led me to the eighth point – soft lighting in the room. Make sure the light is warm so it builds up the calm and mindful atmosphere. You can get fabric, natural colour lamp shades that can add in even more warmth to the light. Add some scented candles for more cosines.

9. Plants. This one is my fav; bring some outdoor into your bedroom. Get a nice big enough (not too big) plant. I would suggest you to go for an air purifying plant, for example: Dypsis lutescens, Snake Plant, Peace Lily, Money Plant, or Zamioculcas zamiifolia.

10. Minimal texture. The last idea is to add some minimal texture, like wool rug next to your bed, or soft throws and cushions. If you meditate in your bedroom, you can also add a floor cushion, square or round one.

Living Room

Pretty much the same rules apply for Living room when it comes to mindful deco.

1. Make sure your sofa and arm chairs are tidied up each evening before you go to bed, so when you get up in the morning your living room is clean and tidy. Sort your cushions and blankets out, put everything away, clean the surface; it only takes 5 minutes.

2. Low furniture is a game. Not only you can have low furniture in the bedroom, the rule applies to living room too. A low coffee table or TV stand, or even floor cushions around the coffee table – all the elements will make the flow be more visible.

Bathroom

When it comes to the bathroom, I feel like the options are insane unlimited. If you are a bath person, you can add so many accepts of mindfulness and also you would make yourself feel like in a mindful heaven. All the bath essential oils, scented candles, brushes and soft towels.

Imagine yourself after a long, busy day, coming back home. All you want is to relax, to finish the day off. And that is something you can definitely have in the mindful bathroom.

First of all, lit the candle, ideally 15 mins before you jump into your bath. This way you are allowing the time for the bathroom to get fill with the gorgeous scenes and a touch of warmth. Make yourself a hot cup of tea, put some relaxing music on.

Run your bath with a hot water, add some Epsom salt, some essential oil – Jasmine, Lavender. If you are a big fun of bubbles – go for it, add plenty of bath gel. Lay down in the bath and relax.

Make sure you stimulate all your scenes; the essential oil will make your skin feel soft, the combined smell of the candle, essential oil will play with your mind, the music will calm you down. Now you can enjoy your tea and the warmth. You can also start massaging your body with a soft brush; just don’t forget to put some oils directly on your skin. Gently massage your entire body, focusing on each movement. Notice how the brush stimulates your blood veins.

Once you have finished, put some silky body lotion, maybe some face mask? What about hands and feet masks? That would smoother your skin and leave it smooth for a long time.

Again, same like for the bedroom and living room, the same rules apply.

Make sure you keep your bathroom tidy, all items that you currently don’t need, just put away. Ensure the bathroom smells fresh all the time. Add some Mother Nature elements: wood, clay, cork. The colours pallet again needs to be calm and basic. Don’t get mad with pink or red colours, which will only distract your thoughts.

Make sure you invest in a soft, good quality set of towels! Your body would thank you after each touch. Lighting can be warmer than anywhere else- warm and darker light in the bathroom is a game changer. If you use bathroom for make up or shaving, you can add brighter light over the mirror. Get a ton of Epsom salt; this is the best way to relax your muscles in the water after any workout or after difficult long day.
